Personal, social, health and economic education
Personal, social, health and economic (PSHE) education is an important and necessary part of all pupils’ education. It helps children to be safe, healthy and prepared for life's opportunities. Relationships education is compulsory for all primary school children.
Department of Education, 2021
PSHE underpins everyday experience at Horspath Primary School. This is because we believe that nurturing happy and healthy children is central to all aspects of their learning and development.
We believe that our children should acquire the ability to make informed, healthy and moral choices in their lives and recognise that they should play a positive role in the school and their wider community.
We intend that our PSHE curriculum will help our children to become confident, independent members of society with an awareness of their rights and responsibilities as individuals and as part of a diverse society.
At Horspath Primary School we use the SCARF: Safety, Caring, Achievement, Resilience, Friendship programme to teach health and wellbeing. We supplement it with resources from the SEAL (Social and Emotional Aspects of Learning) programme and opportunities to learn from professionals who help to keep us safe, for example, the police and fire service.
